"Löschner's personal scales" 2000

preview

It is an old scale (1930) with paper card-output. I created some multimedia-functions for the users. For this I installed a PC, including a self developed steering gear, loudspeakers and a flat screen.

How does the scale work?
If no person is standing on the scale -> the PC is playing sound pieces (limited duration 1-19 seconds - with breaks from 1-600 seconds between them) at random in combined arrangements. I divided the sound files in the following categories: Marching music, natural sounds, jazz, rock music, folk music, industrial sounds, … The scale (or my self on the monitor) is gesturing in direction to the hurrying passers-by. If someone steps onto the scales, then it is “communicating” (by using speech bubbles) with them. The texts of the speech bubbles are very funny and about overweight. The picture on the monitor is changing with every new comment. Of course - the scale is trying to encourage the person opposite to put a coin in the slot. If the person puts a coin into the slot then the scale talks about the weight of the person opposite (speech bubbles). At the same time, the scale puts out a cardboard card (picture right) with the printed weight of the person. On its backside, one can find out the ideas weight for man and woman corresponding to their size. After the person steps down - all starts new. [possession of a private art collection]
